Amid State Department Revolt on Gaza, Blinken Feigns Crocodile Tears

Antony Blinken Shedding Crocodile Tears

There has been a state department revolt on Gaza of sorts, with 100 employees of the State Department and USAID signing a letter stating that Israel has committed “war crimes” in Gaza, and blasting U.S. support for what Israel is doing in Gaza, according to Axios. The document also singles out Joe Biden for spreading “misinformation” on civilians killed by Israel.

According to the article, the junior diplomat who organized the cable went so far as to accuse Joe Biden of being “complicit in genocide” on social media. It will be interesting to see if we eventually find out who this is, and whether he remains employed for long.

Blinken Responds to Revolt

According to this Reuters article, Secretary of State Antony Blinken is listening to these concerns and is trying to address them, as only he can.

Here is a quote from the article: “The anguish that comes with seeing the daily images of babies, children, elderly people, women, and other civilians suffering in this crisis is wrenching. I feel it myself,” he [Blinken] said.

Are his crocodile tears, delivered in robotic deadpan, supposed to convince anyone he really cares about the people being killed? Notice how he speaks of “this crisis”, as if it has arisen organically somehow, like a natural disaster. This “crisis”, is in fact, a massacre of civilians on a biblical scale that he has defended, and has lent diplomatic cover for.

Blinken goes on: “I also know that some people in the Department may disagree with approaches we are taking or have views on what we can do better…”

Blinken is responding to the accusation of being complicit in war crimes as if it boils down to minor policy disputes. He goes on to say that he wants to hear their feedback, and discussions should be ongoing about policy direction, etc. The implication is that tweaking of the policy is all that is needed. The message seems to be lost on Blinken that when the policy is genocide, it doesn’t need to be tweaked — it needs to be stopped!

He is too deeply invested in the American imperial project, as well as that of a greater Israel, to see the reality of what is so plain to most of the world. Oh, he may feel a twinge of angst about killing civilians, but totally willing to accept it none-the-less. For people like Blinken, the lives of ordinary people, whether they are in Ukraine or Gaza, are expendable in the greater scheme of maintaining world hegemony.

The Death Toll Continues to Mount

As for the human toll, the Washington Post points out with graphics that 1 out of every 200 Palestinians have been killed since Oct. 7. The actual death toll, however, may be twice the official count, due to the missing who are still under rubble. That would mean that 1 in a hundred, or a full 1% of Gazans have been killed. If not, it is only a matter of time as Israel’s monstrous onslaught continues.

As for the injured, they will all need food, medicine, water, and hospital care with electrical power. With all of these things being restricted by Israel, and with the UN running out of fuel, many of those who could be saved, will die.

In “this crisis” as Antony Blinken calls it, that appears to be part of the master plan. Though, he would like you to know, he does feel bad about it.
